Given to Us

"For a child is born to us,
A son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."
~Isaiah 9:6~

Jesus was born “to us”, “given to us” by God. He was our greatest gift. It is no wonder that this time of year we celebrate through the giving and receiving of gifts. Throughout the Old and New Testaments the term “gift” is often referred to as what would be given by a sinner at the temple of the Lord as a payment or offering due to the Lord…The sinner gave the gift, so that they could be seen as clean and right before God.

That is exactly what God gave to us as a sweet baby boy was born to a teenage girl…a gift, an offering, a sacrifice, that we might put Christ in our place and He might be offered to God in our stead.

Romans 5:15 says, “For if the many died by the trespass of the one man, how much more did God’s grace and the gift that came by the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, overflow to the many!”

And, Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

God has us covered with everything we need and could ever want this year. Our covering is in the nature of a gift, it is an offering that covers us and our sin. Jesus in his very person is our: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father and Prince of Peace... He is all that, and our gift offering to present before the Lord!
